The development of the ‘smartwatch’, as a potential widespread consumer product is only an extremely recent one in the technology industry, but the idea has been in the public concioussness for several generations, as Samsung commemorate the impact of ‘wearable technology’ in movies and TV shows from down the years.
The two adverts in their campaign, entitled ‘Evolution of the Smartwatch’, sees Samsung take a look back at the most notable devices of past fiction (pictured version not included).
The first video takes a glance at various models used in the past, whilst the second version shows the devices in action in a movie or TV show, although both end with the general message that a lot of those features once considered fantasy will be reality in their new product, the Samsung Galaxy Gear. As the sign-off of the campaign summarises: “After all these years, it’s finally real.”
Both minute-long trailers for Samsung, which include mentions of Inspector Gadget, Knight Rider, Predator, Star Trek, and The Jetsons, amongst others, premiered on Sunday (6 October) during NFL broadcasts in the USA, and are also available to watch below:
