In a world that is growing increasingly impatient, a company from Israel have displayed their potential solution for having to wait all that time for your smartphone to charge, as it offers battery-reckless users the chance to replenish their device’s power in under 30 seconds.

storedot_demoStart-up company StoreDot, formed from the department of nanotechnology at Tel Aviv University, unveiled their titular product, ‘The StoreDot’, at a Microsoft-branded ‘Think Next’ event in their home city of Tel Aviv (Israel), offering an example of just how powerful their prototype is.

The battery system, built from ‘biological structures and functions‘ with amino acid/peptide crystals measuring 2 nanometres (0.0000002 cm) in diameter, was demonstrated at the event with their test subject – a Samsung S4 smartphone. The result of the test was the device going from 0-Full in 26 seconds.

StoreDot’s founder Dr. Doron Myersdorf stated: “Batteries are just one of the industries we can disrupt with this new material. It is new physics, new chemistry, a new approach to devices.”

The company, who have received an estimated ILS20.3m ($5.9m) in investment in 2013 alone (from a list believed to include Samsung), are now planning to release their device in ‘late 2016′ once it is more finely tuned, as the current prototype is claimed to be ‘too large’ to carry slimmer mobile devices at present. Pricing-wise, the StoreDot product is set to sell at double the cost of a more traditional, but the price would surely not be an issue if the Israeli technology lives up to its promise, merely a short-term loss, short-term gain for the consumer?
