Introducing a fairly novel idea in the technology industry, South Korean company Samsung have unveiled their 55-inch ‘Curved OLED TV’ set in its local market.

Despite a number of notable features such as multi-view options (permitting two users to watch and hear separate shows simultaneously while looking at the same screen through 3D-style glasses), the TV will be most prominent for its physical appearance, a role which helps it to provide a ‘platform for panoramic viewing’, with the curved screen allowing a more immersive theatre-style view, alongside ‘self-illuminating pixels’ for an even more detailed viewing experience.

Samsung’s ‘executive vice-president’ Kim Hyun-suk summarised: “We are proud to be able to deliver on our promise of bringing our Curved OLED TV to the market. With this product we’re able to offer customers an immersive viewing experience and flawless picture quality. The Curved OLED TV is a ground-breaking, future-proof product that pioneers a new era of TV viewing.”

Having first displayed their efforts in curved viewing at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier in 2013, the only other company to have displayed their developments in this form of technology are their biggest local rivals LG, so while the industry of ‘curved TV’ sets could eventually become the new common standard for anyone buying a set, high prices and a tag of being ‘new and expensive’ technology should see this intriguing one-on-one battle play out as it is for the very near future at least:
